Our original Indian Creek Design Ruger American® Short Action MoFo (MOdular FOre-end) Chassis was designed from the ground up by Ruger American® (RA) shooters for use in hunting and competition. In this newest incarnation it remains the only 100% American made billet chassis made specifically for the RA versus some rehashed Remington 700® inlet that isn’t ergonomically suitable for use with the tang safety design of the RA line. The MoFo Chassis is the solution to the most common issues facing RA owners who enjoy the phenomenal accuracy and relatively low entry price of the rifle but would like something to address the flexible economy grade factory polymer stock. Whether used for hunting or for ringing steel, punching paper or keeping your area's varmint population under control, ICD has you covered.
Customizing your RA has never been easier! You can outfit your chassis as you see fit, making it mild or wild as it utilizes common AR hardware for the pistol grip and butt-stock. The possibilities are virtually endless, and because we’re blue collar folks like most RA owners are you know we packed it full of value with features others charge premiums for.
Our 4 fore-ends are as follows (you can match these up in the picture-)
Tommy (8.5” long, same exact length as your OEM stock when mounted to the action body of your choice)
Lil John (8” long, or 1/2” shorter than your OEM stock) the lightest of them all. 4 M-Lok slots on sides/bottom and full length RRS Standard ARCA Swiss rail.
Johnny (11 1/2” long, or 3 1/2” longer than your OEM stock) this is our most popular fore-end as it fits on ALL Ruger Americans. 6 M-Lok slots on sides/bottom and full length RRS Standard ARCA Swiss rail.
Big John (15 1/2” long, or 7 1/2” longer than your OEM stock) This is the longest, and will NOT fit on a Ranch model with 16” barrel but will fit on anything over that. With 8 M-Lok slots on sides/bottom and a 13 1/2” RRS Standard ARCA Swiss rail.
All MoFo Chassis are finished in Black Type III Hard Coat anodizing. Hard Coat Ano is an enduring finish that will stand up to the rigors of field use and it protects the billet aluminum more than any other treatment. And even though they look as good as they shoot, you can always paint or Cerakote right over the anodizing if you want a different look than basic black.
Chassis Details
IF LOOKING FOR A LEFT HANDED MODEL, email gary@icdproducts.com. We often have them in stock with no wait-
The ICD RA/SA Chassis comes with new 1/4 - 28 x 1" action screws with bushings, a 1/4-20 x 3/4" grip screw, action saddles, magazine release and associated hardware (dowel pin, spring, and set screw), 1/4-20 x 3/8" fore-arm mount bolt, and a front sling swivel post on the Tommy fore-end.
The RA/SA MoFo chassis uses AICS pattern external box magazines (.223/5.56/300BLK* and .308)
Magpul®, Accurate®, Ruger®, MDT® and American Rifle Company® AICS pattern magazines have been tested in the chassis. Minor tweaking may be needed for some older poly Magpul AI mag to seat properly due to Magpul's catch positioning which is different than ALL other AICS magazines. Watch this short video to see how to fix that- https://youtu.be/94ll0x0szbA Minor magazine tuning may be required with most applications, as with ALL chassis and aftermarket stocks. Email us for tips and tricks, it’s really easy!
*Note: .300 Blackout will ONLY feed reliably from an MDT 300blk specific AICS mag, don’t bother trying any other due to the cartridge shape. This is NOT a chassis issue but a cartridge shape issue when used with the AICS pattern magazine. Email gary@icdproducts.com for more information if desired.
We suggest only using Carbine style buttstocks. The MoFo accepts AR collapsible commercial and MilSpec buffer tubes, our STFU side folder, and many other items. We do not recommend any fixed/Rifle patterns stocks due to the tang safety design of the RA and how that interferes with the shooters grip hand. You CAN run a Rifle stock, but we caution you to look at the application more closely first.
The MoFo accepts all flat top AR pistol grips (without beavertail) and while some soft beavertail models may fit depending on the style/manufacturer, we do not recommend their use as safety access may be hampered. Every good grip with a beavertail has a flat top version of it too- Seek out the right stuff!
Max Barrel profile is a straight taper 1.4" O.D. (yes, larger than any RA action can accept, so it can fit any barrel you can fit to the RA action.
